Spring Term 2017

This term the children in Year 6 will be studying the theme of ‘World War 1’.

In English they will be studying the novel 'War Horse,' moving on to 'Holes' by Louis Sacher. Non-fiction writing will be linked to World War 1.

In Maths they will plan and pursue lines of enquiry and propose general statements involving numbers or shapes. They will identify examples that do or do not meet a statement, and they will strengthen their understanding and methods of recording and reasoning through problem solving and the use and application of mathematics.  

In Science the children will be studying  ‘Light’ and ‘Animals’.

Every child will be set specific targets which we will be working on this half term. These targets have been designed to raise attainment in both English and Maths.

P.E. will be on Tuesdays.

This term the class will be going on three Educational visits.  These visits will provide a fun and valuable learning experience which will link with teaching back at school.  This was highlighted as a strong feature of our school by OFSTED on their last visit.

Autumn Term 2016

This term the Year 6 children will be learning about the cross curricular theme of ‘Climate and Weather’ and World War 1.  They will learn about and compare the different climate zones around the world, and how different types of weather occur and their effects, specifically in the sinking of the Titanic. The children will also find out about the main events of World War 1, how life in Britain was affected.

In English pupils will be studying the novels “Skellig” by David Almond, and “War Horse” by Michael Morpurgo, using these texts as a basis for exploring language and writing in different genres. In maths they will plan and pursue lines of enquiry and propose general statements, involving numbers or shapes, identifying examples that do or do not meet a statement and they will strengthen their understanding and methods of recording and reasoning through problem solving and the use and application of mathematics.  

In Science the children will be studying ‘Evolution’ and investigating ‘Electricity’.

Every child will be set specific targets which we will be working on this half term. These targets have been designed to raise attainment in both English and Maths.

P.E. will be on Tuesdays, so please ensure that your child has their full school P.E. kit on those days.

Summer Term 2017

This term the Year 6 children will be studying the cross-curricular theme of WWII- with an emphasis on writing, linked very much to preparations for SATs. In the second half of the term your child will move on to studying cultural and political changes in Britain since the end of WWII. In Geography your child will be covering map work and the local area' linked to educational visits. We will look at both human and physical features and use six figure map references.

In English the children will be studying the novel 'Blitzed' by Robert Swindells. In Maths they will pursue lines of enquiry and propose general statements involving numbers or shapes. They will identify examples that do or do not meet a statement, and they will strengthen their understanding and methods through problem solving and the use and application of Mathematics. Every child will be set specific targets, which we will be working on his half term. These targets have been designed to raise attainment in both English and Maths.

In Science the children will be studying 'Animals including humans.' This will include looking at the circulatory system, heart, blood vessels and veins. The children will also consider what constitutes a healthy diet and how they can keep themselves healthy.

P.E. will be on Tuesdays.
