Champions of Sunderland!

Amazingly, our Year 6 Girls Team have won the Sunderland Girls Cup after seeing off over 15 other schools to be crowned champions.

The grand final was played at Farringdon and was a very tight and entertaining game from start to finish. Bernard Gilpin started the strongest and hit the bar after five minutes with an incredible long shot from Ellie. However, the opposition got back into the game and had some great opportunities to score but were denied by our superb goalkeeper, Amber. The 2nd half was a very competitive game, with neither side able to break through due to a combination of excellent goalkeeping and brilliant defending. However, with only 2 minutes left to go until extra time, Athena scored one of the best goals you will ever see, smashing the ball into the top corner of the net from at least 30 yards out – an incredible strike – to put Bernard Gilpin 1-0 up. The icing was put on the cake a minute later when Millie scored a deserved goal to make the final score 2-0 and crown Bernard Gilpin champions!

A fantastic effort from all of the girls to end the year with a trophy! Well done to Amber, Ellie G, Olivia, Courtney, Millie, Hannah, Maddie, Athena, Ellie B and Alisha on a brilliant result – you were all fantastic!
